"We've taken this to heart, and we know we need more time to craft Marathon into the game that truly reflects your passion. After much discussion within our Dev team, we've made the decision to delay the September 23rd release."

Bungie continues, stating the recent Alpha test period created an opportunity for the Marathon dev team to calibrate and focus on what will make the game compelling in the survival FPS genre. It will use additional closed testing (including Alpha participants) to deploy gameplay updates and test new features as they come online over the next few months. Those features include "upping the survival game, doubling down on the Marathon universe, [and] adding more social experiences."

Regarding upping the survival game, Bungie plans to add "more challenging and engaging AI encounters, more rewarding runs, with new types of loot and dynamic events, [and] making combat more tense and strategic." For doubling down on the Marathon universe, the developer plans to increase visual fidelity, add more narrative and environmental storytelling to discover and interact with, and a darker tone that delivers on the themes of the original trilogy. And finally, in terms of adding more social experiences, Bungie wants a better player experience for solos and duos, and to add proximity chat, "so social stories can come to life."

Bungie says players will hear from it this Fall when it can share its progress alongside the game's new release date. This indefinite delay follows news last month after an artist online claimed Bungie had stolen her work and used it in Marathon, which Bungie confirmed as an "unauthorized use" of art shortly after.

While waiting to learn the new release date, check out this Marathon gameplay trailer.

Do these improvements for Marathon sound like something you want? The deal will result in AMD technology powering the next generation of Xbox hardware.

In a new video, Xbox president Sarah Bond explains that the partnership will see AMD co-engineer silicon for a range of devices, including the next generation of Xbox consoles.

"Together with AMD, we’re advancing the state of art in gaming silicon to deliver the next generation of graphics innovation to unlock a deeper level of visual quality and immersive gameplay and player experiences enhanced with the power of AI, all while maintaining compatibility with your existing library of Xbox games," says Bond.

Bond says this move reinforces Xbox’s mission to build a platform where players can take their games anywhere across multiple devices, such as handheld, PC, and cloud.

“The next generation of Xbox is coming to life, and this is just the beginning,” says Bond. “We can’t wait to show you what’s next.”

Of course, the big news here is Microsoft confirming another generation of Xbox consoles is in the works. Many have wondered what the future of Xbox as a console platform would be following the Xbox Series X/S' weaker sales compared to the PlayStation 5 and Switch. Combined with the publisher’s increasing focus on its Xbox Game Pass subscription service and its recent initiative to bring its exclusive franchises to rival platforms, such as Forza and Gears of War, some have questioned the long-term viability of Xbox as a console ecosystem.

Xbox’s deal with AMD is the second major partnership announcement this month. During Summer Game Fest, Microsoft revealed a partnership with Asus to produce an Xbox-centric model of the company's ROG Ally handheld systems. It brings missions, hero classes, new tools and weapons, and much more to the brick-building adventures within Fortnite.

Players will enroll in the newly founded Supernova Academy to unlock their super-powered potential, master new powers, and obtain additional skills to defeat evil in the form of Mask Maker Daigo, who is dead set on destroying the world. The Supernova Academy will be your base of operations and hosts other heroes playing at the same time as you. Utilizing founder Vengeance Jones and hero-turned-mentor Hope, you can explore and interact with academy staff to learn more about Expeditions.

Daigo's Spires have appeared throughout the world. In co-op missions, you and up to three other heroes will explore the map, aid citizens, and take down enemies in wave-based combat. Search for chests to find additional resources, currency, and new gear. Throughout Expeditions, you'll have three distinct hero classes to check out: Shadow Caller, The Hunter, and Rift Ripper. Check them out and more in the Fortnite LEGO: Expeditions trailer below:

The Shadow Caller utilizes her flying ability and the dark shadows to summon projectiles that deal explosive damage but heal allies. They can also transform into a flock of invulnerable ravens, too. The Hunter can deal massive damage to a single target and utilize their grappler to close the gap between them and an unsuspecting enemy. Finally, the Rift Ripper launches Rift Shards and Rift Crystals to take out enemies all over the arena, and the presence of crystals will enhance their abilities in a big way.

Tools in Expeditions are divided between weapons and gadgets, and new weapons include Dual Daggers, the War Hammer, and Plasma Pistols. You'll need these weapons and more to take down Spires, Light Demon Guards, Heavy Demon Guards, Kor, one of Daigo's lieutenants, and Titans, rare but formidable foes.

For another look at Expeditions, check out the screenshots below:

Fortnite LEGO: Expeditions launches tomorrow, June 18. No, it’s not a release date, but it is confirmation that the game is, in fact, still happening.

A new post from the official Prince of Persia X account frankly states,

“Yep, we’re still deep in the game — exploring, building, and ensuring the sands move with purpose. This game is being crafted by a team that truly cares, and they're pouring their hearts (and a lot of coffee) into every step. Thank you for sticking with us."

Additionally, the post shares a new piece of artwork (posted in the header above).

It’s a rare update for the troubled title, which was first announced in September 2020. The remake of the 2003 classic was originally in development at Ubisoft’s Indian studios in Mumbai and Pune with a planned launch in early 2021. The game was initially billed as a ground-up remake with improved textures and lighting, modernized combat, new cinematics, and re-recorded dialogue from the original voice actors (including Prince actor Yuri Lowenthal).

A few months after its reveal, the game was delayed a few months, then postponed indefinitely. In 2022, development was transferred to Ubisoft Montreal, the studio behind the original Sands of Time, which effectively reset its development. During Ubisoft Forward in 2024, the publisher announced a 2026 launch window for the remake, and it’s unclear what the new scope of its improvements will be.

When it was announced, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake was slated to launch on last-gen consoles and PC. It's unclear if the game will still launch on those platforms, as one would imagine development would shift to current hardware. Until we learn more, you can watch us revisit the original game in this episode of Replay. Perkins and Crawford will now serve as Darrington Press' Creative Director and Game Director, respectively, according to an announcement on the company's website.

This is a massive shakeup for the TTRPG world. Critical Role, known for its livestreamed games of Dungeons & Dragons played by high-profile voice actors, launched Darrington Press in 2020. While the company's first projects were Critical Role adjacent, this year it released Daggerheart, a standalone role-playing game designed to compete with Dungeons & Dragons and other similar games. The cast is currently in the midst of a mini-arc using the game system, and fans have speculated the company might intend to move away from D&D entirely one day.
Daggerheart, the tabletop role-playing game from Critical Role, is a system that uses dice and cards to tell stories in a fantasy setting.
By bringing on Crawford and Perkins, Darrington Press's pedigree increases significantly. The two have worked at Wizards of the Coast for many years (Crawford for 18, Perkins for 28), and are considered two of the primary architects behind Dungeons and Dragons' extremely popular fifth edition and its 2024 overhaul of that ruleset. The designers were public spokespeople for the brand as well, appearing in videos to explain new books or playtests and even clarifying rules on social media. Shortly after the new books were released, however, Chris Perkins and Jeremy Crawford each announced they had decided to leave the company.

Their jump to Darrington is an unexpected move, to say the least, but it seems Wizards of the Coast was aware of the transition, making a point to congratulate the move on Bluesky. The pair also did an interview with The Los Angeles Times explaining their decision process and generally praising the Critical Role team.

The two will be "developing novel game concepts as well as expanding the games [Darrington has] released so far," according to the announcement. This likely involves additions to Daggerheart, which launched a few weeks ago. For more Daggerheart and its inspirations, you can read our interview with its lead game designer, Spenser Starke.
